I only see pretty things

Under the sun, we cannot see the moon,
And in the presence of light, the stars are hidden.

Without a kind heart,
We cannot see what is good,
And without a virtuous heart,
We cannot feel warmth.

We often stay within our own perspective,
Feeling only what is visible to us.

Perhaps we are missing countless beauties
And innumerable moments of happiness.

The proud self who endured yesterday,
The beauty of the rising sun on the way to work,
The effort of preparing a modest lunch,
And the warmth of the sunset after work—
These fleeting moments of happiness in an ordinary day.

Are we perhaps focusing too much on sadness?
Are we only feeling the burdens of life?

Every day, the world is filled with beauty:
The romantic violet sky at dusk,
The crimson glow of the sunset painting the heavens,
The stars adorning the night sky,
And the delicate presence of the moon.

The world is what we choose to see.

So, you, endlessly beautiful soul,
Live your days seeing only the beautiful things—
Like the stars,
Like the moon.
